Northstar-at-Tahoe, while being one of many resorts that dots the Lake Tahoe coast, continues to stand out as one of the premier family friendly resort destinations as well as a favorite for committed skiers and snowboarders. There’s a good reason that acclaimed professional snowboarder Shaun White calls this mountain home. It’s not uncommon to catch him in the terrain park, tearing up the half-pipe while onlookers stare in awe. The resort is also home to the Burton Snowboard Academy where ambitious young snowboarders can hone their skills.

The resort itself has no shortage of entertaining activities that are sure keep even the pickiest of visitors intrigued. During the winter season, in addition to skiing and snowboarding, you can take some rides down the hill without strapping in, just grab yourself a tube and let the carved tubing lanes take you the rest of the way. Snowshoe tours are a family activity that will let you enjoy the great outdoors while seeing some things you may not have noticed while zipping down the slopes. There’s also ice skating and, if you’re up for it, miles of carefully groomed trails that are perfect for cross-country skiing. In the summer, you’ll barely have a moment to rest if you want to experience everything that Northstar offers. For the kids, there’s STRIDER™ Adventure Zone where kids can learning the ins-and-outs of mountain biking, 9-hole disc golf, gem panning, miniature golf, roller skating or the Kid’s Adventure Club, where the kiddos can spend the day exploring the resort and making new friends while mom and dad head out on their own. For the adults, you can spend a day on the links taking in 18 holes, enjoy a relaxing wine walk with some of California’s finest vintages, cast your reel for some fly fishing, play tennis or kick back while listening to some live music. Year-round, the whole family will appreciate the bungy trampoline and ropes course challenge, or head on over to the Village Candle Shop where you can get elbow deep in crafts with paint pottery and candle making.

Whether its casual or formal, burgers or seafood, you’ll find something that will tantalize your taste buds at Northstar. Northstar-at-Tahoe boasts 3,170 skiable acres (1,283 hectares) that receive an average snowfall of 350 inches (890 centimeters) each season. The resorts 20 lifts provide access to seven terrain parks and 97 runs, including Logger’s Loop, the resorts longest run measuring 1.4 miles (2.25 kilometers). The terrain, while largely geared towards intermediate skill levels, can accommodate anyone hoping to grace these slopes, breaking down into 13% for beginners, 60% for intermediate skiers and snowboarders and 27% for advanced and expert level mountain goers. Northstar is considered to be flatter than many other mountains, creating perfect conditions for those getting on the slopes to push themselves a little bit more without getting too far outside of their comfort zone.
