Aspen - Vacation Rentals & Ski Lodging

Aspen is certainly one of the more well-known ski resorts in North America. With its history of A-list celebrities walking the streets, high-end boutiques shops and interesting local scene, Aspen truly is the chic ski resort of the Rocky Mountains. However, Aspen is so much more than what you see in the movies, there is a real culture to this Colorado mountain town.

If it’s art you’re into, then take some time to walk through any of the numerous art galleries that line the streets in town. Or, if you consider yourself a foodie or wine connoisseur, make sure you don’t miss the annual Food and Wine Classic in Aspen that the town lends its name to each June. Of course, if you don’t fall into either of these categories, or are looking for something a little more mountain centric, there is more than enough to keep you busy. During the winter season, there are all the usual on-mountain activities like skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing that anyone at any experience level can enjoy. During the summer, there is golfing, horseback riding, tennis and even zip-lining, just to name a few activities. And what mountain town would be complete without a healthy music scene with various concerts catering to all types of music held throughout the year, including the Aspen Music Festival.

As far as the mountains are concerned, prepare to enjoy yourself. Since the mid 1900’s, Aspen has been operating its high-profile slopes, often being rated as one of the world’s top resorts. These days, the resort is widely known for its black-diamond runs that are sure to please any skier or snowboarder looking for a challenge. Aside from Snowmass Village, Aspen is home to three additional picturesque ski areas: Aspen Mountain (formerly known as Ajax), Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. Aspen Mountain has 673 skiable acres (272 hectares) and 76 runs, all of which are for intermediate and expert skiers/snowboarders, and is serviced by eight separate lifts, with a peak elevation of 11,212 feet (3,417 meters). Aspen Highlands, a locals’ favorite, has 1,010 skiable acres (409 hectares) and 118 runs for all levels serviced by five different lifts, with the top elevation peaking at 11,678 feet (3,559 meters). Finally, the family oriented Buttermilk, which is the friendliest area for beginners, has 44 runs across 435 skiable acres (176 hectares), with eight lifts servicing the area and a peak elevation of 9,900 feet (3,000 meters). Regardless of the area you choose, you won’t be wrong. Or you can try them all.
